are tattoos a fad

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

I know a lot of you reading this might not have even given this any thought or you simple think that they are not a fad they are here to stay. But you honestly never know if they will ever come so taboo like they were once before. Yes, I will admit that society in general is a little more forgiving and more open to people having tattoos. But will it always be this way? I personally hope it will because I don’t want to be perceived as an outcast or lesser of a person because I have tattoos. One might wonder why tattoos have become so popular over the years. Is it because a lot of our favorite athletes, movie stars and other people we look up to have them. Or is it the TV shows like Miami Ink and LA Ink that gives us a peek into the world of a tattoo artist and what tattooing really does for people. These are questions that I often think about. Because to me it seems that tattoos have become a lot more popular in the past 5 to 7 years. Could this be because we as a society have become overly obsessed with celebrities and knowing everything about them, including getting tattoos so we can be just like them? Or have times just simply changed and tattoos have some how evolved into something that is a must have rather than a no no.

searching for an executive job

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

A job search for executives is far less complicated today than it has been in the past. Anyone who is looking for an executive job can simply look to the Internet where there are hundreds of employment websites, with many specifically geared towards executives. These websites offer individuals the opportunity to network with other executives in order to share ideas, offer communication about opportunities and support that can be useful during a job search. The best way to begin looking for an executive position is to have an exceptional resume that provides any potential employer with an individualized declaration of that person’s educational and employment history, in addition to their professional direction anticipated for the future. The resume is such an important part of a job search that it can truly mean the difference between landing an interview and having the resume discarded. There are a number of things that can set one candidate apart from another, and an outstanding resume can be a great start. Job search websites for executives often work closely with recruiters from a number of specialty areas in order to make the right connections. Meetings and interviews can take place on the Internet or via phone. Some job search services come with full support from a professional staff to provide answers and counseling during the process. Many executives who are looking for a job are in a position where they would like to keep the fact that they intend to change companies a private matter. Posting a resume on a job search website might seem risky, but a lot of these sites provide only resume information, and it is up to the individual posting the resume to release any contact information. Be sure to confirm the site’s confidentiality options before proceeding. —————————————————— By Heather Eagar, owner of ResumeLines.com. sylvia brown psychic or scam

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Sylvia Brown is probably one of the most well known psychics in America. While she has many followers, she also has many critics. Sylvia Brown was born Sylvia Celeste Shoemaker in 1936 in Missouri. She has her own radio show and has appeared as a regular guest on the Montel Williams show and Larry King Live. Sylvia claims she first began having visions when she was five years old and that her grandmother was also psychic. She later on in 1974 started giving psychic readings and attracted attention. Currently her psychic readings for a 30 minute session cost $850.In one of her many books she claims to know what the environment in heaven is and describes it in specific detail. In 1986 she formed a church in California named the Society of Novus Spiritus. This church refers to itself as a Gnostic Christian church and follows the traditions of Christianity. It’s interesting to note that satellite churches have been created and these smaller churches receive no financial support from Novus. They are also required to send money to the headquarters and purchase all of their religious/spiritual books and materials from Novus. Another cause for concern over the integrity of Sylvia Browne, is the fact she has been indicted on charges of fraud and theft in California. Critics of Sylvia Browne note that her predictions or claims are founded on classic psychic reading techniques that anyone can learn. Furthermore, on numerous occasions Browne has made predictions in public that were later found to be incorrect. Sylvia Browne has some strong critics, Robert Lancaster is one skeptic who created the website stopsylviabrowne.com to challenge her claims. You can visit his site for more details and criticism. Even with all the critisism, Sylvia Browne continues to release new books. She still has a large fan base of supporters willing to give her money or buy her next book. In the end whether or not Sylvia Browne has psychic powers or not, one thing is certain, she knows how tell a good story that captures people’s attention and (maybe wallets).

how to write a law essay

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Law Essays require a certain style and format if they are to be written effectively. Be Clear As with most essays, it is critical to read and understand the question and be clear what you have been asked. This may sound obvious but all too often essays are given low marks because the question is not actually answered. Identify Subject Matter The first thing is to clarify the subject matter so that you identify the area of law that is being addressed. Sometimes this will be obvious as when the question asks about the differences between an offer and an invitation to treat which will direct you towards the law of Contract. However, sometimes the question is more obscure and this requires more effort in determining what the subject matter is and might involve looking at more than one area of the law. If a question asks about the terror laws, then this may well span human rights and constitutional law too. Identify the Approach This is absolutely vital when answering a question. Often the essay will ask you to evaluate something; reflect on something; write a critique; discuss a particular statement; reflect on a judge’s particular statement in a case, or discuss the impact of a case on an area of law. If a question asks you to compare more than one thing, then you must identify the similarities and differences between them, and ideally reach a conclusion as to which one you think is preferable. If a question asks you to discuss something then you must study and comment on it from all viewpoints, and reach your own conclusion. Prepare the Structure The structure of the essay is extremely important. If an essay exceeds 10,000 words, a contents page and chapter headings should be included and, even in shorter essays, it might be appropriate to set out chapter headings. Chapters are relevant where the answer straddles a wide area of law and addresses several areas. Chapters help focus both the writer and the reader on what is being discussed and maintain focus. One major criticism of law essays is that they drift from the main topic and angle that they are meant to address, and the thread and point are lost. Another criticism is that the writer tends to just list the legislation and discuss the topic without containing any incisive opinions of the writer. An introduction and conclusion should be included. Sources Make sure that your sources are current; this is vital because quite often questions are written which are impacted by recent changes or even proposed changes in the law. So a question on Control Orders should be looked at in the light of the proposed increase in detention periods and the impact on human rights. Citation The correct referencing should be used consistently throughout. It is vital to give credit when quoting someone else, otherwise the essay may be plagiarised. It is never acceptable to cut and paste from the internet. Neither should you copy directly from a book unless you give the appropriate credit. Copying huge sections, even if credit is given, will not be looked upon favourably. The examiner will be looking for the writer’s comments and own views and opinions, based on a sound interpretation of the law and thorough research. The examiner will be looking to see that the writer has researched several resources. References to case law must be relevant and illustrative. Remember to include a full bibliography. freelance writers 3 quick tips for marketing in a recession

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Many freelance writers get scared in tight economic times, ie, in a recession. But really, a recession is one of the best times for freelance writing jobs. Companies are laying off, but the work still has to get done. And, who do marketing directors, creative directors and others who need writing done turn to? Freelance writers, that’s who. With this in mind, following are three quick tips for landing freelance writing jobs in a recession. 1. Teach to Sell: To explain, I’ll use a recent example from my SEO copywriting business. I recently wrote an internet marketing report to distribute to clients. Why? Because, in spite of what many of us who spend a lot of time online everyday believe, the internet is a foreign entity to many. This is especially true when it comes to internet marketing. I was answering the same questions over and over again, eg, what is article marketing, what are backlinks, how can I get on the front page of Google, etc. Once I realized that I knew more about internet marketing than many of my clients, I put together a basic internet marketing tutorial that explained what SEO is all about, how search engines work, which internet marketing methods work best (in my opinion), etc. How I Sold a $595 Service Because of a Simple Written Report And guess what? Before I could even finish the report, I had landed a client (I told him to wait to read the report before he placed his order). After reading it, he ordered my most expensive service — an article submission pack for $595. He said the report clarified some questions he had, which made it easy to pick the best service for his business. 2. Market More: While there are plenty of freelance writing jobs out there, you may have to market more to get them in a recession. So, instead of sending out queries once a month, for example, you may have to send some out every two weeks. In any economy, you should always marketing consistently for freelance writing jobs. If you’re a regular reader of my articles, blog, website, etc., you’re probably tired of hearing this. But, it is the best piece of advice I can give you. Even when you’re busy, you should market for work. This will make the time between dry spells that much shorter. 3. Bundle Services: Offering more than one service at “one low price,” can make you more money from each transaction. So, you might offer 3 blog posts and two articles for $x. Bundling Services Tip: Think about the needs of your main target market. Are there two popular services that they always order? Bundle these to make easier sales. Landing freelance writing jobs in a recession requires some creative thinking. But, it’s a great time to make some really good money — if you market consistently and creatively. how to choose a freelance writer for your online business

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

With content reigning king over the internet, choosing the right freelance writer is important to building your online business throne. Akin to the HR decisions you make for your in-house employees, not all freelance writers are created equal. Finding the freelance writer that has synergies with your business is important to ensure that your content fully maximizes your company’s revenue, branding, and exposure potential. Evaluate your specific content needs You should first consider two elements pertaining to your content before you begin your search for a freelance writer: • Content Goals: What is the ultimate goal of the content you would like the writer to develop? Would you like sales copy that will convert each visitor into a paying customer? Or, would you like informative articles that will build your reputation of expertise? Are you seeking link-bait articles that will generate buzz in the social networks? Each type of content goal will require a different style and focus of writing, and it is important that you firmly establish your goals in order to find the best content writer for your project. • Branding Tone: The value of branding cannot be underestimated, especially online where information flows with full transparency. If your branding portrays a fresh, hip style, then you want to ensure that your content is in line with that strategy. On the other hand, if your positioning is based upon conservative professionalism, it requires a different type of style and voice for branding congruency. Important freelance writer elements to consider Once you have your content goals and branding tone in mind, then you are ready to begin selecting an appropriate freelance writer. As in most industries, freelance writers have specialties. Some may focus on editorial or travel writing, while others are specialized in SEO web content. There are a myriad of freelance writers from whom to choose, and the key is narrowing down which ones have writing expertise that fit your customized needs. • Writing Niche: If the purpose of your content is to promote and enhance your website, then it is important to select an article writer who understands the fine line between SEO and great writing. Although you can always hire a “SEO expert” to go into the content to make the necessary revisions, choosing a freelance writer who is versed in SEO will ensure that the content is not only great for the search bots, but also eloquent for the humans from the very beginning. • Copyright Considerations: Keep in mind that not all writers will release the copyright of the content to you. For many freelance writers, they keep the rights of the content, and you are limited in the avenues and number of times you can publish the article. If you would like to keep the copyright of your content (which is a smart business move), then you should find an article writer who will automatically give you the rights to the content written on your behalf. • Non-Disclosure Agreements: A large portion of freelance writers will require that their name is credited with the development of their articles, as this is standard practice in the journalism and editorial fields. However, if you would like to publish the articles under your name

a quick guide to marketing your book on the internet

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Selling your book will be ten times easier as soon as you can accept this one, think-out-of-the-box strategy: your book doesn’t have to be inside a bricks-and-mortar store to sell copies. Too many self-published authors get caught up in trying to figure out how to get distribution which will get their book into big box stores such as Borders and Barnes & Noble. The process can be expensive and daunting. But these days the best grass-roots marketing that can sell tons of books happens on the internet. Using a few tricks of the trade you could reach a wider audience, sell more books and do it while spending less money! Create a Website That Does More Than Look Good Nearly every author has a website these days, but not every site helps sell a book. Yes, it’s great to have photos, calendar dates and an order button for your book. But a website can do a lot more. Put a sign up box on every page of your site and offer a free gift to people who fill it in. That will give you a great head start in building your mailing list. You can also use your site to showcase your talent: post clips, sample chapters, your resume and a way for editors looking for freelance writers to contact you. Give your readers reasons to come back to the site regularly. Some authors hold contests and showcase readers or book clubs that loved the author’s book. Have a speaker’s kit on your site as well for easy downloading so you can direct inquiries for appearances there. You can even feature periodic sales on your site (perhaps during holidays or your birthday!) where readers ca n buy your book in bulk for gifts. Enlist Others to Assemble a Special Offer Package Everyone knows you have to get your book on Amazon.com. It’s the easiest place for people to go to find your book. But how do you get them to go there and buy it? The key is to get other people (preferably with lists of their own) to help you put together a special offer package. You ask people to donate services, a free download, or gift certificate (the idea is this helps them promote their businesses) and you bundle these goodies up into a bonus package that people receive when they buy your book. The offers should appeal to your target market. Then you set a launch day and everyone who contributed to the package sends an email blast to THEIR lists telling them of the great offer. So you not only have a great offer to entice people to buy, you also have the offer going out to A LOT more people! I’ll give you an example so you can see how this works. I recently participated in a special offer for Christine Martinello to promote her book, The Momager Guide: Empowering Moms to Leave A Loving Legacy. This offer was only supposed to last a week, but it was so successful Christine allowed it to continue. She also went, in just a few days, from being ranked #2.4 million on the Amazon sales list to being ranked #13 on the parenting and families bestseller list and # 238 in overall book sales. A true bestseller! You can check out a similar promotion that started last month at .HappyForNoReason.com. This site promotes author Marci Shimoff’s new book. I received several emails from prominent names such as Jack Canfield encouraging me to go to the site and buy the book. Look at her site and see how clearly it’s set up. She tells you how to buy the book, how to leave your contact information and how to download your bonuses. It’s a great example to follow. Use Many Tools A great website is just a start. To maximize your exposure, use more than one of the many internet tools available. Use a blog to increase your search engine visibility. If you’re posting on a regular basis and on subject matter connected to current events, your blog could also become a source of free publicity. Just make sure your blog postings note you are “author of your book”. Podcasts are another way of establishing credibility and getting the word out. An aspiring author recently asked me about how to create buzz around a book he’s writing about a historic sports broadcaster. A podcast is a natural outlet for him. Not only can he produce shows about sports broadcasting that show off his expertise, he can also play old clips of his book’s subject and stir up interest in him as well. E-newsletters, like this one, are a great way of establishing rapport with your readers and keeping them up to date on what’s coming next. I recently signed up for Stephen King’s newsletter so I can see how this mega-selling author continues to put himself out there. (Note: King and his publisher sent out text messages to random cellphones to promote his book Cell. A great use of a different marketing tool!) Don’t overlook your email signature. I still get people interested in my book just because they saw it mentioned in my email signature. Keep it simple: mention the title, a great review and tell them where to get it. Since you can set your email up to put your signature on everything you send out, this is marketing you can just “set it and forget it”. Show Up in Many Places The internet is a big place and the people you’re targeting to buy your book visit many sites. Your best bet is to figure out where they go and show up there in a variety of ways. For instance, you can design a banner ad for your book and get it posted on targeted sites. In some cases you may have to pay for the advertising, but if you have a site that someone wants to show up on themselves, they may be open to swapping ad space with you for free. Same thing goes for newsletters. Write articles for other newsletters, swap articles with other authors. Or, better yet, post articles to sites such as isnare.com or EzineArticles.com, and your writing will be sent all over the internet. You never know where your article will show up. One of my articles recently led to me being interviewed by Investors Business Daily. The reporter simply found it while doing a search on the topi c of her story. One last note: Because the internet is practically limitless in its reach, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the marketing possibilities. Take a deep breath and map out your strategy. Not every tool will suit you, so don’t try to do everything. It’s better to choose two or three techniques and work those to success rather than do ten things, in a scattershot way, with poor results. Remember, technology is supposed to make life easier!

additional ways to get your article rejected

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Listed below are some more faults I’ve come across with received articles that can get them rejected. Problems With Pen Names Should you promote articles you’ve written on the various article sites available, you will more than likely find that these allow you to have a username, which is required to login, and at least one pen names, which are displayed as the name of the author of the article. Now, I’ve seen several faults here. The first fault is usually caused when you already have an account at an article directory, then join an article distribution service such as Article Marketer. The distribution service will generate you a new account, and sometimes, if the pen name you use with the submission service is the same as an existing one at the directory, you may end up with a blank as the distribution services pen name, as the identical one is rejected. This means that the ability of search engines to spider your articles is greatly decreased, as there are no links to “About the Author” or similar pages. Some sites will decline your article should this happen. Next, using your website address as your pen name is frequently not appreciated either, so just don’t do it. In fact, many directories will decline articles written by something other than a proper First and Surname person, so, although terms do alter from site to site, it’s doubtful that any will decline to a pen name of, e.g., “John Smith”, whilst will decline or delete articles by “mysitename.com” or “The SEO Guru”. Just remain with a standard name, even if it’s not your actual one, and you will avoid any problems such as this. Poor Use of Article Spinners You may not have come across services such as these, or you may use something along these lines without knowing what it is. There are several different versions around, but what they all have in common is that they are designed to take one article, and make a number of different variations of it. The differences may be only minor, but the concept is to make a variety of “unique” articles to avoid duplicate content filters. Now, there is nothing wrong with doing this, but there are wrong ways of doing it. If the spinner replaces words or phrases with variations, for example, “In the beginning” could also be phrased as “To start with”, after doing this for an article and producing a number of variants, read each one through to make sure they still make sense. It’s quite easy to produce gibberish if you don’t, and most decent article directories don’t like to publish gibberish. If an article needs tweaking, do so manually. Far better to make sure you spend a bit of time now on the article, then having to fix it after rejection. Next, if you generate a bunch of 20 variant articles, submit each article to a different site. So, 20 articles to 20 sites. Or submit them to groups of directories, one article to 10 directories, the next to a further 10 and so on. Do not submit all 20 variants to one directory. That will probably just get them rejected, and you may get your account deleted for annoying the directory owner. Submission terms, and what an article site or directory will accept or decline do change, sometimes quite substantially, from site to site, but if you err on the side of caution, you’ll get much fewer articles rejected. uncover your readers personality

Copyright by Pamela White, 2006. Permission granted for use in freely distributed online newsletters and print publications, and on websites. UNCOVER YOUR READER’S PERSONALITY by Pamela White When researching magazines, writers naturally look to the types of articles published and their length, and the number of them that are freelance written. It might serve the writer better to devise a profile of the magazine’s readers in order to write for them. One way to do this is to look at the advertisements in the magazine. Pick up a copy of Family Circle and you’ll see ads for cleaning supplies, children’s needs, and drugstore make-up. Just using the above simple clues create a profile of the Family Circle reader: The ideal reader is female, ages 25 to 45, keeps house without much, if any, help, has children, and cooks time-saving meals. How will this profile help the writer to win over editors? Magazines spend thousands of dollars researching their readers’ profiles in order to sell those very ads at premium prices. The advertising sales staff can point to age and gender demographics, as well as to the income of readers. Someone who earns over $300,000 per year is less likely to spend time reading ads for concentrated, discount toilet bowl cleaners, and a gourmet diner won’t be reading articles that offer advice on freezing meals to save time, the best chocolate chip cookie recipes and quick tips for cleaning. A writer looking to break into Family Circle, or any women’s general interest magazine, could assume that an in-depth article on the Cordon Bleu’s best stocks and sauces will not grab the reader. This very reader may well pick a magazine from the grocery check out racks whose headlines offer the best foods to boost energy, or a list of sneaky ways to get children to eat more vegetables. Pick up a copy of Vegetarian Times and skim the ads inside. You are likely to find ads for herbal health products, gourmet vegetarian frozen foods, health equipment, natural clothing, and books to help their readers live the healthiest, happiest lives. What kind of reader subscribes to this magazine? Based on the ads, it appears that those interested in extremely good health, natural healing, and holistic living are the readers of the magazine’s articles. Write to these readers and the editor will love you for it. Write not about big traditional holiday cookouts but instead about new ways to offer a vegetarian holiday meal with a myriad of flavors and textures. Write about using barley syrup or stevia to make desserts healthier. Share ways for meat eaters to feed their vegetarian children or guests. Researching magazines can be a monumental task. Writers work hard to match their ideas with a magazine’s audience. Make your research work easier by using this trick of creating a profile of the magazine’s ideal reader by dissecting the advertisements that are selling their products to the readers you want to entertain and enlighten. hitlers thoughts about his future government

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

Hitler in his book Mein Kampf accuses the German Parliament of taking away the right of German people for self-preservation and consequently their independence as well as calling the German Parliament the only and the biggest curse to German self-preservation and independence. The German Parliament was moreover blamed by Hitler for sending thousands of unprepared people into battle to find certain death which he said was of no concern at all to the German Parliament. Hitler did not like parliamentary government since the period spent in Vienna before the war, and after reviewing in his own way how the German Parliament handled matters before the war, Hitler got even more enraged with this form of government entity. Some time later, after becoming Chancellor, Hitler would burn the German Parliament to ashes afterward blaming the German Communist Party for the arsenic act. From his early days as a young man, Hitler began to accomplish or at least incorporate in his mind his political ideology that to obtain something or to make any kind of convincing mark a person usually had to have recourse to force, cruelty and violence so as to realize it. He shortly reminds the reader what were the consequences of the murder of Archduke Ferdinand and that Germany had become a great state through applying force and violence in the war. Irrespective of having come to conclusion during his imprisonment that he would have bring his party to the top of Germany justly upon his release, he was stubborn about his aim of using force constantly to realize his idea of nationalism once he had received the whole power in Germany. Hitler truly believed that violence and cruelty are the only way to keep the country and the people in order.
