what you should know about it project management

Friday, December 19th, 2008

Why do we have to plan and manage IT projects? Why bother at all considering the fact that many clients eventually accept whatever the resulting software may be? Why bother at all since time is precious in building the systems rather than planning systems? These are the usual answers of independent or freelance software developers who are excited in tackling or building software projects immediately without the need to sit around and plan first. If you will bother to read my article, you will see the importance of IT Project Management. I have an experience before in my last year in college where in we have an IT project to do. Since we are excited in building

the key a fairytale chapter 6 skeletons and snakes part 3

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

My breathing became labored, and as the poison worked its way into my heart, I wished that I had begun my quest when I was much younger, before the wars. I also wished I had paid more attention to the robed man who warned me to sweep the path! When key seekers speak, it is never for conversation or amusement. The sorcerer crossed my mind too. I found it amusing that for once, he was wrong; I would not find the key in this lifetime, and would have to come back one more time. Leaves rustled all around me, snakes everywhere, but then I heard something else - men running down the path. It was a John with two other key seekers carrying brooms, and they seemed to know immediately that I had been snake-bitten. They frantically swept the remaining snakes off the path and then one of the men drew a needle from his robe and started to perforate my head and shoulders with hundreds of small punctures. The other man removed a vial he had tied around his neck, poured its liquid over my pierced skin, and rubbed it in. Next, they carried me to my hut and laid me on the floor, making me as comfortable as possible with a John sitting next to me. He quickly instructed me that for the next three days, I must drink water continuously and remain awake so that the poison would dilute and circulate, and not have a chance to settle in my heart. When the other men left, I asked a John how he knew I had been bitten. “It is important for you to remain awake but not move, so I will try to keep you from sleeping by talking to you and waking you if you doze off,” he replied. “You have only a slim chance to live but I will do everything I can to save you. Just in case, however, I will also prepare you for death. To answer your question, I was practicing my inner work as I do most of the night when a point of light came through the window. It looked similar to other immaterial beings in the forest that drop in occasionally, but this one was exceptionally brilliant, growing into a bluish-green, transparent form of a stunning young woman, perhaps three feet tall with exceptional large, dark piercing eyes.” I whispered, “Ariya.” “When she told me that you were going to be bitten by a snake and would be lying on the path, I immediately ran out to find a key seeker with anti-venom. Not knowing what kind of snake would bite you, I did not know which robed man to go to because there are many different types of anti-venom that the villagers prepare for us, and each man carries a different one in his vial. However, I followed the point of light that guided me to a couple of huts where I aroused the men and we came as quickly as we could. Luckily, one of them had the Banded Krait anti-venom, and when we found you, we could tell immediately by the odor that you were bitten by a krait.” Ariya promised when I first entered the forest that she would always be there to help when I had exhausted my own efforts, but I also remembered what she said regarding freewill. I knew that my fate, as the result of this snakebite, was not within her powers. She could only do so much. But I could feel she was in some strange way strengthening me, and I knew if I survived this bite, as I did the fever and the quicksand, it would be because of her. A John was looking at me as if he was hesitant to say something, and then said, “I must tell you one more thing. Ariya revealed to me that this was no mere accident. Moosawa is trying to kill you. I suspected him from the very beginning and tried to keep an eye on him but he was very clever, stealing into the night with bags of snakes and setting them loose on your path. He is a bounty hunter disguised as a key seeker.” “Why didn’t you tell me of your suspicions sooner?” “Because if I had, you would have killed him.” “But why did he go to the trouble of collecting all those snakes? He apparently has a crossbow hidden somewhere. Why didn’t he just shoot me?” “Well, for one thing,” said a John, smiling, “he is apparently not a good shot! Additionally, he would have had a problem explaining how a key seeker could be murdered in this protected community. Only someone who lives among us could have been the killer. Questions would have been asked and suspicions aroused. Moreover, he would have had to get you back to Ayatana to collect the bounty and that would be difficult. It would have been impossible to get a body out of the gate or traverse this country with it without a good explanation. No, it would be much simpler to make it look as if it were an accident. Then he could confess that he knew you were a king, and graciously volunteer to return the body to its rightful subjects.” “Help me up, I am going to kill him right now,” I said, as I almost passed out. I distantly heard a John laugh, saying that I was not going anywhere, and that I was lucky to be alive. He said that I should no longer be concerned about Moosawa; and that he would deal with him in his own way. I was now only to pay close attention as a John was going to give me instructions for death. (To be continued) E. september 11 as seen by an american from warsaw poland

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

I am sure I do not need to acquaint anyone with the facts that transpired on that day as I am convinced that everybody who is past a certain age and has the gift of literacy has had more then enough time to become acquainted with them. Therefore my intensions in writing this article are first to present my fellow Americans and those around the world with my personal view of how I saw the events. Second to tell how someone who has read what I would call an enormous amount of history books would classify this day in terms of history. I like I have already stated was born in New York City where I was raised and spent 20 years of my life, me now being 40 years of age. By September of 2001 however I had adopted myself to live in Warsaw, Poland where I was residing with my then wife of 4 years and my daughter who was 3 years of age at the time who I might add is prominently mentioned in the story called “The Little Opera Singer”. My adoption to Poland however had not been limited to having courted and eventually wed one of its many lovely ladies whom I would go on to have a child with. My adoption also included having become a fluent speaker of the Polish language as well as having opened a language school. Perhaps to many it is rare to hear of an American immigrating out of the United States specially since most of the stories weather film or book focus on those who immigrated to the United States in search of fortune and all those things that move people from their country of birth to another. I however going against the trend made an exodus from the United States in September of 1994 to Poland where I settled down and where less then a year later met my wife to be while we were both on a short trip to another city called “Zakopane” (the name of this city meaning “buried” when translated in to English). The day of September the 11th of the year of our lord 2001 started like any other for my family and myself. My wife going off to her place of employment while I dropped off our daughter at preschool before making my way to work where I teach English as a second language in the school I had opened the very same year of the events of this day. I can not claim much about the day with regards to something happening to me which went outside of the ordinary. I taught the lessons which I was supposed to with nothing going particular well or badly for that matter. I remember going home when my work day was done and arriving at a little past 6 in postmeridian where upon arrival more from force of habit then expecting to hear anything of consequence turned on my TV set. After having turned the TV set on I went to the kitchen to get something to eat and drink. When I got back to the living room I saw the images that my TV was displaying which I earnestly considered to be from one of the so many mindless action films that exhibit scenes of devastation with visual effects that seem to be creating an art out of mass destruction. I even in a slightly ironic twist of fate thought the special effects as I witnessed a plane smash in to one of the towers of “World Trade Center” to be less then convincing giving me the false impression that this was a B film of some kind which was being advertised. Just when I was about to use my remote control to turn to another channel the announcer cried out “to nie jest film! To jest prawdziwe!” (This line meaning “This is not a movie, this is real” in Polish). These words hitting me like a flash made it that I could not take this with out seriousness as shock had replaced my prior disinterest in what I was seeing. I instinctively turned to Cable News Network (CNN) were these images which my eyes had failed to accredit the first time were being shown erasing all doubt in my mind as to their authenticity. Once I turned the channel to CNN I saw one by one how the once might towers of “The World Trade Center” fell to ground making such an impact that it would cause other buildings to either fall or have to be demolished as their structure had been weakened to the point of being a dangerous. The thought of who was responsible had not even occurred to me yet when the picture changed to Washington D.C. where the Pentagon was shown to have been struck. The image of the Pentagon however was not on for long as it was soon replaced with the one of what would have been a fourth airplane which had crashed somewhere in Pennsylvania. My usual active and imaginative mind had come to a halt and as I looked up at the screen still in astonishment as I heard the words “America under Attack” which created the illusion in me that we were under attack by another country. But which country would be capable of carrying out a blatant act of war against the United States? I had not heard of any diplomatic fall outs in the media that the United States was mixed up in at the time so who could it be? If this had occurred during the “cold war” I would have naturally assumed it was the “C.C.C.P.” or “U.S.S.R.” who was behind it but the cold war was over. Eventually it would be unveiled to all that terrorism, which in and of itself is the act of carrying out acts of violence in order to achieve political objectives was behind it all. This option I must confess did not enter my mind as from what I knew from experience, this was out of the scope of its activities. Terrorism’s acts I believed where limited to car bombs and little else that went beyond placing explosives were innocent civilians would fall pray to people whose political agendas could not be fulfilled peacefully. My familiarity with terrorism coming during the time I spent in Lima, Peru from 1991 to 1993 in which “Cendero Lumuniso” (Shining Path) and the “M.R.T.A” were putting bombs all over the city after having terrorized the rest of the country in the same manner. It was there where I witnessed what my mind will never rid itself of which were images created by an act of terrorism in the distract of Lima, Peru called “Miraflores” in the month of August in the year 1992. The sight of those bombs blowing up cars and ripping through the air leaving 27 dead and a lot of damaged buildings in a place where I had been less then 5 minutes before was something as gruesome to me as it was incredulous. As one can imagine it would be as I had never seen till then the body of a dead person other then on TV or in a photograph. The panic, the chaos, the sight of corpses that I saw from the window of my friend’s house (which fortunately was not broken from the sound wave) that day was something that nothing I had been through or learnt could have ever prepared me for leaving me to wonder what if I had not entered my friend’s house when I did. As one can see in my case it was not that I had not seen violent death in front of my own eyes before not that what was being presented to me on that day was being done in such a way but it was the originality of this act (if such a name can ever be given to an act of terrorism) that flabbergasted me. I had even witnessed an earthquake in South America which went on to form the strongest imagery of my infancy. It taking place when I was 3 years of age (same age as my daughter at the time of 9/11) that I saw the house where I was residing at the time with my grandparents fall to the ground. It might be said that all these events in my life helped to make me immune to what my TV was forcing me to watch which it did but only in a limited way as the magnitude of it all was something surrealistic even to me who had witnessed so much mayhem. By then the initial stun in me had subsided at least long enough to call my wife over to the TV. My wife who was in our daughter’s room felt alarm by the way my voice called to her at the time, came to the part of the house where I found myself in. Hers was an impression of distress as she also never imagined that something like what she was seeing on the screen might be real. With regards to the day that followed September the 11th? This day in my mind sticks out for all that it had connected to what happened the previous day. My friends at my favorite bar telling me how great their sorrow was for what had taken place in my country and last but not least there was the phone call I received from my Spanish friend who like me was living in Warsaw at the time. It was this lady from Madrid who had been a friend of mine for over a year and was the only one who actually called me with a word of consolation that made me see that people did care. This however would turn out to be a word of consolation which in a very unfortunate turn of events I would have to return when in 2004 it was her hometown that suffered at the hands of terrorists when the “Atocha” train station was hit by bombs costing over 200 people their lives. As for my personal feelings toward the “World Trade Center” (a.k.a. Twin Towers) I can not claim to have been an admirer of these buildings as they architecturally speaking were not to my liking in matters of esthetics. However these buildings though not among my favorites were a part of the New York I knew and lived in as they were across the street from the building that for two years was my place of work. The building I am referring to for the curiosity of those who care to know is the lesser known “World Financial Center” which like the “World Trade Center” was located on Liberty Street. It was during those two years of 1993 and 1994 that I took the subway to the “World Trade Center” whose underground passages and covered Bridge allowed me to get to my place of work without the need of going outdoors. This being a benefit on rainy days. My having worked so close to it and having passed it everyday make it hard for me to think of its destruction and not imagine the realistic possibility that I might have been there on 9/11 as I on many occasions during my lunch break ate in its many restaurants. I even speculate from time to time as I can not help but do such that perhaps several of the people I worked with at “John Hancock Clearing Corporation” might have been unfortunate enough to have found themselves at the wrong time and place like so many others that day. In a personal observation from the historical point of view I would like to remark that strangely enough the “World Trade Center” will most likely be remembered in the centuries to follow not for having been the tallest building in the world at one moment in time (till “The Sears Tower” in Chicago replaced it), nor for having been the place were huge deals of globe’s money passed through but for having been destroyed in the spectacular manner in which it was. For in many ways The World Trade Center’s destruction like that of Pompeii reserved it a place in the pages of history. A place that it has obtained arguably for all the wrong reasons but a place that it might not have had if it had gone on to be demolished like any other building. This view from a historical perspective is not rare as is not Pompeii mostly remembered for having been destroyed by a volcano then the developed or promiscuous society it was?

freelance writers how to get more work than you can handle

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Editorial, eg, freelance writing, is a cyclical profession. Many are surprised by this. We’re about to head into the busy fall season, which kicks off right after Labor Day. For freelance writers who want to get more work than they can handle, this means getting a jump on the competition. What are the Busy Seasons of Freelance Writing Going in calendar order: The beginning of the year is pretty slow. Starting about the third week of January heading into February, freelance writing assignments start to pick up again. It stays busy until late May/early June. June, July and August are the slowest months of the freelance writing season. It picks up again after Labor Day, and stays busy right into November (before Thanksgiving). Early December tends to be busy, as editors assign freelance writing assignments they want to get off their desks before the end of the year. That’s the freelance writing cycle. How to Prepare for the Busy Freelance Writing Seasons Now that you know when to expect the most work as a freelance writer, you can prepare to take advantage of them. Before every busy season, assess the following: Services: As in, do you need to add more services and/or do away with others that aren’t profitable. Most freelance writers never stop to assess their service offerings. After all, you’re a writer, right? But, are clients asking for blog posts, in addition to articles for their website. Do they need a marketing brochure for their upcoming trade show? Do they need press releases for the rollout of their new product? If you don’t offer blog posting and press release writing in addition to your article writing, you could be missing out on other, profitable revenue streams. It’s important to update your service listings to keep pace with client needs. This will not only help you retain existing clients, but bring in new ones as well. When WAS the last time you assessed your service offerings? Rates: Many freelance writers are notorious for not increasing their rates on a regular basis. But, you’re a small business. And, this should be a regular part of the way you do business. While you may certainly lose some clients, the vast majority won’t even blink an eye, if you do the following: i) Notify them up front: Don’t make it effective immediately. Announce it a few months beforehand, eg, starting in January, our new rates will be . . . ii) Explain to them why: Eg, we haven’t raised rates in two years and keeping in line with inflation, and to continue to be able to provide you with the best quality writers . . . iii) Offer incentive packages: Eg, you can still get great savings by ordering blog packages instead of individual posts. By ordering a 20-pack of posts, you save 20% . . . Just doing these two things can bring you more work than you can handle as a freelance writer. self publishing a book for bigger profits

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

Self publishing means more money in your pocket and not your publisher. Another great thing about self publishing is that you can update your book and re-release it anytime you want and keep the profits rolling in. Self publishing is fun, it is challenging, and it is very lucrative. Self publication means more money in your pocket and not your publishers. Let us assume you do go the traditional publishing route for your first book. If you were able to receive an advance of 6-10 thousand dollars, a very good advance for a first time author, I know many first time authors that walk away with advances of two to three thousand and the royalties are not very good either. This is not because they had a bad agent, it is because they have not proven themselves yet as a marketable author. Oh, yeah I forgot to mention that no matter how small your advance, your literary agent will take 15% off the top. So let us talk about royalties for a moment. Generally speaking, hardcover books pay royalty rates of 10% on the first one to 250,000 copies sold. So if your book has a cover price of $25.00, then you will earn a $2.50 royalty on every copy sold, up to 250,000 copies. This means that if you only sell 10,000 copies, then you will only earn $25,000. Some publishing contracts even stipulate that if your book does not earn back its advance, you owe them! Keep in mind that our agent gets 15% of this too, and all of this is paid after you have earned your advance. Paperback royalties pay an average of 6%. That is not much of a salary for all of the work you put into your book. Do not you deserve much more? We think you do! In addition to the small pay check, publishers can withhold your royalties as a reserve against book returns and you are still responsible for promoting your own book, which can mean hiring a publicist. There goes your advance! What does all this mean? It means, if you are willing to do the legwork yourself, meaning packaging, printing, distributing, and promoting your book, every single cent from every single sale goes directly into your pocket. So if you sell 10,000 books at 19.99 each, you have made $199,990. Um…that is a lot of money. Of course you do have to cover your printing and marketing costs but you will earn significantly more per book and with proper packaging, you can roll your costs into the price of your book. For example, if your book costs $2.00 to print and market then you up your price to $21.99. Readers will be willing to pay the extra $2.00 because you have told them, through your amazing packaging, that the book will benefit their lives the way no other book can. In fact, I have seen books sell for several hundred dollars. If you have extremely specialized and unique knowledge, you can price it at any level that you desire and people will buy it. The really great thing about self publishing is that you can update your book and re-release it anytime you want and keep the profits rolling in. Self publishing is fun, it is challenging, and it is very very lucrative. most common tattoos that people get

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

The great thing about getting a tattoo is that you can absolutely get what ever your heart desires. Of course more people are a little more original than some people. So this leads me to inform everyone what are the most common tattoos that men and women get. It seems that women gravitate towards pretty things like the all famous butterfly, star or flower. The reason behind this is women seem to think that having something beautiful anywhere on their body will help add attraction to the overall appearance. I am happy to report that I do not fall into this category, neither of my tats are of a butterfly, star or a flower. Men on the other hand are a little bit more complex, their reasoning for getting certain tattoos all comes back to their masculinity. For example, a lot of men will get tattoos of some sort of animal. They think that the characteristic of the animal such as strength, courage, and power will be bestowed onto them now that they have them tattooed on their skin. The most common animal’s that men get tattooed on them are lions, tigers, dragons or snakes. Strangely enough I fall into this category. I have a tattoo of a lion’s head on my left shoulder. There is a personal reason for me getting this lion tattooed on me, but I also liked what the lion stood for, The King of the Jungle. I will admit that whenever I am feeling weak or down about something I will go to a mirror and look at my lion and remind myself that I am a strong women and I can get through whatever I’m going through. So if you are thinking about getting a tattoo and want to get something that most people don’t have then stay away from the butterfly, star, flower, lions, tigers, dragons and snakes. Of course if you want to get one of this then try to add you own twist to it so it will be a little bit more original. Your Tattoo Friend Ashley

reviewmammoth

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

Mammoth, John Varley, 2005, ISBN 0441012817 Multi-billionaire Howard Christian is an eccentric sort who likes to actually play with his toys. His latest obsession is to clone a woolly mammoth. During an expedition in northern Canada, an intact, but mummified mammoth is found. Huddled in the mammoth’s fur is a Stone Age man approximately 12,000 years old…wearing a wristwatch. Matthew Wright, science prodigy, is brought in to figure out what is in the metal suitcase clutched in the Stone Age man’s arms. It’s some sort of time machine, involving what look like many glass marbles. One day, Matt gets it to work, and takes himself, Susan Wright, who is taking care of a herd of elephants involved in the cloning plan, the elephants, and a Santa Monica warehouse, about 12,000 years in the past. After several days in the past, Matt gets the time machine to work again, and brings himself and Susan back to the present, along with a herd of half a dozen mastodons that happened to be nearby at the time. A baby mastodon, nicknamed Little Fuzzy, and Big Mama, his mother, are the only survivors when they appear in the middle of L.A. traffic. Five years later, Little Fuzzy is the star of a multi-media extravaganza of a circus in Oregon. Susan is still his handler, because Little Fuzzy won’t work with anyone else. She comes up with the idea of kidnapping Fuzzy, and freeing him in the wilds of northern Canada, where he could have something resembling a normal life. But Howard Christian is not about to let that happen. Does any circus, no matter how progressive, automatically equal mistreating of animals? That’s one of the questions explored in this fine piece of storytelling. It is more than just a really good time travel story, and it’s well worth reading. 4 reasons to write for lowpaying online sites

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

I contribute to AssociatedContent.com (AC) and eHow on a pretty regular basis; I’ve posted a couple of articles to Helium. Regular readers of my blog and newsletter may wonder why I contribute to sites like this when I earn more from my SEO writing and other freelance writing gigs. Well, there are four reasons. One sitting in my inbox when I logged on this morning prompted this post. Why I Write for “Article Paying Sites” Like AC, eHow, Helium, etc. 1. Special Assignments: One morning when I logged on, there was an email from an editor at AC offering to pay $25 to write an article on How to Write a Small Business Plan. As I’ve written enough business plans in my life to do one in my sleep, this article will probably take 30-45 minutes to complete. While it may seem paltry to some, when you’re writing about what you know, it’s usually a breeze to knock out and it doesn’t take any research. For me, these are the best kinds of assignments. I’ve been writing for AC since April 2006. To date, I’ve submitted well over 500 articles. The bulk of them have been on the business of freelance writing. When I first started to submit, I submitted a lot of content I’d written as press releases from an old business I had. So, a lot of that content was business-focused, eg, How to Market Your Business Online. Over time, I’ve established myself as somewhat of a small business expert. And, this is probably why this special assignment came my way (I have no way of knowing how/why I was chosen for this assignment). The Direct Benefit for You: As large sites like AC build out, they hand out special assignments that pay more to proven contributors who write well (let’s not forget this part). 2. Residual Income: On AC, for example, they pay you $1.50 for every 1,000 page views. I usually earn anywhere from $20 to $40/month just from residual income on the articles I’ve submitted to AC. eHow has a similar program. A king’s ransom? Certainly not. But again, when looked at monthly, that’s another column I can add to my monthly income streams. The Direct Benefit for You: Over time, these little bits add up, especially when they’re little bits you don’t have to do anything for. I sometimes joke to myself that if Social Security isn’t around when I retire, I can count on my residual income from sites like AC to take up the slack. Exposure: Now, this is obvious, but I wanted to point out how it’s worked for me. Obviously, you’re exposed to a wide market when you contribute to heavily marketed sites like AC, eHow, etc. 3. Clients: I’ve been approached at least half a dozen times about work because someone came across one of my articles on AC or some other site. They would remark that they were impressed with my article (usually a business article) and wanted to know how much I would charge to write X for them. 4. Backend Sales (eg, ebooks): If you promote an affiliate program or write and publish ebooks, for examaple, the exposure is invaluable. I don’t exactly how many ebook sales I’ve made because of my articles on AC, eHow, etc., but I do know that in the last two years, I’ve gotten a pretty good flow of email from readers on those sites asking me questions. A few have written me directly, telling me that they bought my ebook and enjoy my articles on AC, et al. I have over 100 subscribers on AC, meaning that every time I publish an article there, there are over 100 readers who are so interested in my content that they’ve taken the time to subscribe (never underestimate what it means when someone subscribes to your newsletter, blog, etc.). This was a number I never used to pay attention to, until I looked up one day and saw that I had 84. I couldn’t believe it. I was humbled. NOTE: Most purchasers will not email to let you know how/when they came across your work; they’ll just buy. The Direct Benefit for You: This type of continuous exposure allows you to keep your name constantly in front of your target market. These are leads you don’t have to pay for, chase, beg or plead to - they’re easily accessible. So, the next time you wonder why so many so-called “successful” freelance writers contribute to sites like AC, et al, keep these reasons in mind. Overall, it’s just smart marketing - and it keeps those writing skills honed. About the Author:Yuwanda Black is a freelance SEO writer. 7 ways to research your nonfiction book

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

If you are writing nonfiction, chances are you will have to research. Here are 7 of the most effective ways to go about it. 1. Interviews The first rule of interviewing is to find an expert. The second is to use every listening skill at your disposal. If you don’t understand what you’re hearing, ask for clarification. You are there to learn, not to show the other person how much you know. Summarize, in your own words, what you understood. The third rule is to continue to build your understanding and knowledge base with every question and every person you talk to. 2. Research room of the public library Your best friend should be the research librarian at your local library. Before everything was computerized, librarians acted as walking databases. No matter what you asked them, they could point you to the area of the room, the shelf, and the precise reference book you needed. Their scope is even broader now due to the numerous targeted on-line sites. Ninety percent of research is done through libraries’ full-text databases. 3. University & specialized libraries If you haven’t visited one, do it just for your general education, if not for a specific subject. Most universities have a large, central library and several special-collection libraries. These often include art and architecture, business, all branches of science, law, medical, music, and special collections; but many large universities have even more. 4. Books on your subject area There is no such thing as a new idea. If you’ve thought of it, someone else has, too; and that person has probably written a book about it. That doesn’t mean you should abandon your idea; it simply means you must tackle it in a different way. Find other books on your topic in (a) bookstores with large selections, (b) public or special libraries, or (c) on-line at such sites as amazon.com, bn.com, or borders.com. This is a fast way to find titles, synopses, and reviews. 5. Corporations Want to know about a specific industry or publicly held company within that industry? Start collecting annual report from a stockbroker or directly from the company. Then look up relevant magazine and newspaper articles. Also check out business publications, such as The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Forbes, Fortune, and Barron’s, and business-related TV channels. 6. Government agencies There is so much literature put out by government agencies, it boggles the mind. It is there for the asking, and much of it is free of charge. Besides departments and major agencies, there are boards, commissions, committees, offices, and services, as well as judicial, legislative, and administrative sources. Start with .lib.lsu.edu/gov/tree. 7. The Internet In today’s world, the World Wide Web is an unlimited source of material. The secret of researching on the Web is knowing how to use search engines. Fortunately, most search engines have helpful hints on how to use them most effectively. Look up researching on line at .marin.cc.ca.us/~adair/workshop.html.
