the art of writing paupers poets

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

Poems are fun to write and a good way to express oneself. I had a knack for the art and complete command of structured forms as well as free verse. Little did I know that “free” was the keyword. When I was a teenager I was foolish enough to believe that I could make a living out of poetry. Some men are born into poverty, some achieve poverty, and still others have poverty thrust upon them. I got it all three ways. When young students get good marks in English and enjoy reading, they always wonder what it would be like to be an author. Then they think of stories they’d like to write about and ways to change the world through the power of the mighty pen, more powerful than the sword as the saying goes. I first applied my language skills to enter college in Radio & Television Arts, but I found more and more that the type of writing needed was not at all creative. The set formula was to write commercials or television content that was the same as other T.V. slush. Fortunately, I knew music and began to pay attention to lyrics. This was the medium that could give expression to my ideas. Fame was not in the cards, and I lost more than I made on a regular basis. In need of money, I turned to the financially promising world of poetry. Now, even the bill collectors won’t call me. I developed an ability to remember my English classes and the heavy emphasis on poetry that I used to pass tests when I couldn’t think of any other project to submit. I traveled and loved women, giving them poems written especially for them. They love poems, but relationships with underfinanced boyfriends usually end in rejection. They complimented my writing ability as they drove me away into the drunken darkness. Now I’m artistically satisfied and poor as a church mouse; I don’t even know why the mice living in churches have less money than other mice, but apparently that’s the state of things. I forgot that the great Leonard Cohen had money to start out with, became slightly less rich being a poet, and got rich again by writing music. His books sold well at first, and when he become a famous folksinger, his book sales were better than ever. Fame breeds more fame. Now he’s traded his notoriety and wealth for the life of a Buddhist monk. The wheel of life comes full circle. I worked my hands off playing my guitar and I sang across the country until I was blue in the face. I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t make a decent living. There was one medium I hadn’t tried and that was prose. I decided to write a novel and there it was…thirty-three years later I finished the book, The Golden Blues. It was about Buddhism and reincarnation. Now that Leonard Cohen has renounced materialism in favor of nirvana, he’s got the jump on me there as well. I might be able to fast better though. Fasting comes naturally for a starving poet. If I were to give my best advice for young writers, it would be: see if the Post Office has any openings. Get a secure job with good benefits because old age sneaks up without warning, and then the romantic thought of dying in a Greenwich Village hotel on an overdose, covered in the pages of your next unreleased masterpiece doesn’t seem that attractive anymore. The next generation will be too busy playing computer games to muse over the writings of a sensitive genius in the candlelight. The next time your pen runs out of ink, don’t fill it up again

barack obama suspected of plagiarism

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

Democrat presidential hopeful Barack Obama from Illinois is accused of plagiarizing speeches from a 2006 speech by Deval Patrick, the Democratic governor of Massachusetts. The Obama speech entitled “Words Matter” was delivered in Feb. 16, 2008 during a meeting in Wisconsin and had several similarities with the Patrick speech delivered in 2006. Particularly noticeable are the passages wherein both Obama and Patrick list famous historical quotes such as “I have a dream”, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal” and “We have nothing to fear but fear itself” in an effort to demonstrate the power of words. Both speeches were delivered in an effort to defend the use of speeches and rhetoric as a campaign strategy. Obama has recently received criticism from Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. Clinton’s side claims that Obama does not have enough political experience to be able to act as a president and that his campaign was built solely on words. In response, Obama delivered his “Words Matter” speech wherein he insists that words have the power to change minds and inspire citizens. The Clinton campaign then latched on to the accusation of plagiarism, bringing to fore the similarities between the Obama and Patrick speeches. Both Obama and Patrick declared that no plagiarism has taken place. Obama reasons out that he and Patrick are good friends and that they often talk about strategies. Patrick delivered his “Just Words” speech in 2006 as retaliation to criticism that he was ill equipped to handle real political problems and that his campaign was running solely on well-versed speeches. According to Patrick, after Clinton made the same accusations of his friend Obama, he encouraged the Illinois senator to defend himself the same way Patrick did in 2006. Political commentators note that both Obama and Patrick use the same campaign team, particularly the campaign leader David Axelrod, which may be the reason why their strategies are so similar. Obama even retorted that Clinton herself had begun to use some of his campaign buzzwords. These accusations of plagiarism are reminiscent of the incident in 1988 when Democratic presidential candidate Joe Bidden had to drop out of the race after coming under fire for plagiarizing a speech by Neil Kinnock of the British Labour Party. Barack Obama began his political career after he announced his intentions of running for the Illonois Senate in 1995. He became a senator for Illinois in 2005, which was also the time when he was officially sworn in. Hillary Rodham Clinton was first exposed to politics as the First Lady during the term of her husband former American President Bill Clinton, which began in 1993. As a first lady, Clinton was appointed the chairwoman of the Task Force on National Health Care. At the end of her husband’s term, she was elected senator for New York in 2000 and was re-elected in 2006. Barbara Ross is a writer for Famous Quote, Hollywood Politics and People’s Democracy.

how to submit articles quickly article submission techniques

Monday, April 25th, 2011

If you have been involved in article marketing you can appreciate how much time can be spent submitting your articles to multiple directories. There are hundreds of article directories to choose from. If you are in the mind set that you have to submit to dozens or even hundreds of these on a regular basis you are likely going to set yourself up for failure. To manually submit to multiple article directories takes time, a lot of time. Here are three ways to speed up this process. 1. To submit articles quickly you need to learn which article directories are worth submitting to. Although there are hundreds of directories to choose from the majority of them don’t hold any weight in the eyes Google, Yahoo, etc. That means that if you are submitting to these kinds of directories your articles will likely not get adequate exposure when someone types in your keywords into a search engine. Spend some time researching which article directories have the highest authority in the major search engines virtual eyes. This way you will save time by submitting to only those directories that will give your work maximal exposure. 2. Article submission techniques should not exclude social networking sites. Don’t limit yourself to article directories only. Time spent researching which social networking sites are high ranking is well worth it. Just as in article directories you can maximize your exposure and save time by submitting to only the top ranking social networking sites. 3. You can submit articles quickly by using article submission software. There are several types of article submission software and services available on the market today. Some are free to use. Some require a one time fee. Others require a monthly fee. Each will have its own advantages and disadvantages. If thinking of going this route research the products carefully and be sure that they will help you accomplish what you want to accomplish. The nice thing about software like this is that you can submit an article once into the software program or to the submission service and they will submit it to several (usually hundreds) of different article directories. If time is money then you could lose a small fortune in the time it takes to manually submit your articles to multiple directories and social networking sites. Wouldn’t you rather spend most of your time writing quality articles instead of submitting them over and over again? writing help use your calendar to improve your writing

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

Many of my students shrug their shoulders at the beginning of the semester when I tell them that time is their best friend. Just like my students, too many writers struggle with their writing because they treat time as a four letter word. However time is not the enemy if you learn to use it wisely. Time can be a tremendous help when you write if you plan ahead. Making a wise use of your time is a three-step process. First, allow yourself enough time to live with the idea you plan to write about. Do not write. Give yourself permission to jot down notes but it is wisest to simply make these hard copy (or handwritten) notes. You want to give your muse, your subconscious mind, your brain, or whatever part of you that does your heavy lifting when it comes to writing, time to work. During this time just go about your normal life and work on other tasks, writing and otherwise. There is no need to schedule time to simply think about your future writing task. It is going on whether or not you pay attention to it. However every day you can give yourself for this process will save you much time, energy, and agony later on. Trust me. I have been there and I know whereof I speak. Second, once you have given your brain some time to work out your rough draft (or at least the bones of it) then it is time to start writing. However before you start writing you should work out a schedule for yourself. Set goals and limitations and then stick to them. Perhaps you will write for a set amount of time or you might rather set a certain page count for your goal. Some days it will be a struggle to meet your goal and other days it will be almost painful to stop when you have met your quota, but over time your brain and writing muscles will become accustomed to the goal and the writing will come easier and faster. Third, and this is where you need to pull out your calendar, you need to plan your schedule so you have plenty of time for that initial period of thought, a workable writing schedule, and time for drafts as well as time for breaks between drafts. Writing and revising through multiple drafts is one of the essentials to improving your writing product but if you do not allow sufficient time between those drafts then you might as well not bother with drafts at all. You need to give your brain time to rest and you need to allow yourself some distance from the initial creation. Time is a writer’s best friend but only if you plan ahead sufficiently to allow time to live with your writing idea, plan a workable schedule, and give yourself time off between drafts. Pulling out your calendar and planning out a writing schedule can be the single biggest step you take to improve your writing. getting nonstop traffic by writing articles

Saturday, April 23rd, 2011

Dreaming of getting tons of targeted traffic to your site without spending a red cent? Fantasizing of effective free advertising? Then you should deffinetely start writing articles for promotion! The things you’ve gotta love about articles are: A. They’re free to submit, allowing thousands of people to read them (and see your web link) without costing you a dime. B. They prepare a visitor for purchasing your product or service much more effectively than a three line Pay Per Click ad possibly could. C. They create a ton of inbound links to your website, which in turn boosts your Search Engine ranking (making it easier for people to find your site). So, whether you have a product to sell, an affiliate product to promote, a newsletter, or just want more truly targeted traffic to your website, writing articles is THE way to go. Here are the 4 steps to getting NON-STOP traffic using articles: 1. Write an informative, interesting article that your target audience would enjoy reading. Make sure that the subject covered in your article relates to the content on your site or you won’t convert very many sales or opt-ins. For instance if your website caters to dog owners: DO write an article on the different breeds of dogs or anything else to do with dogs, but DON’T write an article about cats. 2. If you don’t believe you can write a very good article then pay someone else to write it for you. Elance.com is an excellent place to find potential article writers. Someone on Elance will write you a quality article for a low one time fee, and then you just slap your name on it and promote it as your own (this is perfectly legal). 3. The next step is writing the “ad” that is inserted at the end of your article in the byline, author’s bio, about the auther, resource box or whatever else it may be called. This little 3 to 5 line “ad” will entice your readers to visit your site. EXAMPLE: Jane Doe is the author of “Hot Copywriting Tips,” a must have online newsletter for all website owners. Go to .JanesSite.com to grab your FREE copy now. 4. Submit your article to every article site that has a category relevant to your article, and you’re ready to roll. My favorite article sites are: .ideamarketers.com .goarticles.com .articlecity.com .articlesfactory.com .buzzle.com .ezinearticles.com .netterweb.com .isnare.com Now get started promoting your articles. Get them out there fast if you want to set your traffic counter spinning.

article marketing profits

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

Have you been hearing about article marketing and wondering if what everyone is saying is true? Can writing articles for promotional purposes actually generate large revenue? Yes, it works! Article marketing can and does generate a lot of targeted leads that do convert to sales. More than hundreds of thousands, if not a few million, Internet marketers can’t be wrong. Writing unique content in promotional articles is a marketing technique used to set into motion millions of Internet sales every single day. 1. Article marketing is the cheapest, most effective way of Internet marketing strategies used today. No one needs a large advertising budget or big investment to start driving traffic to their site. You simply write unique content in your articles about topics that surround your market. Make sure to include a link to your promotional site at the bottom of every article. After your articles are completed, you submit your articles to quality article directories that get indexed on a regular time table by the search engines. When your articles begin showing up in search engine results that are about the topic of your articles, this is great exposure. Many readers will now be able to find your articles and read them. 2. When you leave a link to your website at the bottom of every article, this drives quality, targeted traffic to it. Your site must be set up to look professional, so when your visitors arrive, you can convert the traffic into sales or build mailing lists of your visitors for email marketing purposes. The trick to getting readers to click on your website link is simple. Do not give your readers the whole story in the article. For the whole story or more information, the reader will have to click on your link. Most of your readers will be looking for information about your topic. Give them information, but entice them with the promise for more complete information that is available for them if they just click on the link to your website. When your readers arrive at your website, you must have more information available for them along with access to the product you are marketing. 3. Article marketing creates a ripple effect on your promotional site and your sales. Article marketing is a machine that you set up to generate traffic. In time, this marketing machine will drive traffic to your site. As more and more visitors come to your site, your site becomes popular enough to start selling some of your web space to advertisers and begin charging other website owners to leave referral links on your site to theirs. On the Internet, one thing always leads to another, sometimes in very unexpected ways. Your article marketing is a very powerful tool that allows you to drive traffic and chose what direction you want this traffic to go in. There are many different ways someone can use article marketing for endless possibilities. It is up to the marketer’s own imagination and course of action how they wish to use this promotional tool for themselves. what should i write about how to select your topic

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

“What Should I Write About” How to Select Your Topic At the beginning of this process, you may feel as if you have entered a strange territory without a map. You need guanidine for choosing your topic if you must select your own or for narrowing a general topic assigned to you. This section shows you how to get ideas for topics and what subjects are best to avoid. Three Criteria for a Topic Whether you write a literary, argumentative, position, or description paper, the subject you select must meet three important criteria. • The topic should interest you. • It should be written your abilities. • There should be enough information available on it to complete a paper. The first criterion is the most important. Something besides fear of failure has to sustain you through all the hours it takes to research, write and revise a report of term paper. Make the paper a process of discovery for yourself, something you want to know or say about a topic. That desire will help to see you through to the end of the project. The second criterion is also essential. You may be interested in a topic, but not have the background of ability to handle it in a paper. Say, for example, you are interested in the flights or voyagers 1 and 2. You want to do a report on some of the computer programs that send commands to the small spacecrafts. The scientific journals are filled with complex diagrams and explanations, but you find none of it makes any sense to you. You have no background in computer programming and no ability to translate technical information into plain English. You will either have to find a book or an article that translates the material for you or find another topic

performance appraisal

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

Performance appraisals are of great need for the effective work and ‘health’ of a staff. Performance appraisals assist in developing individuals, in improving company’s performance, and in effective business planning. Performance appraisals are usually done every year for all the staff in the company. Performance appraisals are also necessary for person’s career and successful business planning. Appraisals are significant for the motivation of a staff, correct behavior, effective communication process, and developing positive attitude of management to the staff. To sum up, performance appraisals that are carried out without training and without adhering to the rules, without necessary explanation are conducted in a wrong way and in most cases can be counter-productive. In other words, they are simply a waste of time. Successful companies have an appraisal system that evaluates employee performance in accordance with the company’s strategic goals. Such companies know very well what they should do to win in today’s competitive world - they must attract and retain productive employees. Successful companies get their competitive advantage with the help of effective performance appraisals that assist them in hiring productive employees and in putting them in the right place (position) and in developing their abilities that greatly contributes to the company’s success. Generally speaking, a good performance appraisal no matter what type is it, is effective if it is conducted in a right way when everything is clearly explained to the staff and agreed with the authorities. Benefits of effective performance appraisal are the following: improved productivity; maintenance of top reformers; improved employee morale; increased profitability. Performance appraisals can be counter-productive for those employees who need much training and development. A successful performance appraisal affects positively the employee work performance in case of the employee high job motivation. In case with an employee who has low job motivation, performance appraisals are counter-productive. Performance appraisals should be adapted to the employee’s individual needs and features. In other case, there is a risk of a poorly-conducted appraisal with all the negative consequences. To sum up, performance appraisals that are carried out without training and without adhering to the rules, without necessary explanation are conducted in a wrong way and in most cases can be counter-productive. In other words, they are simply a waste of time. Well-prepared and well-conducted performance appraisals give additional chance for managers and companies in general, to continue improving and developing their work. Badly-prepared and badly-conducted performance appraisals are not working and are counter-productive. The article was produced by the writer of Essay-Paper.net.
